Macrophilia is a fascination with or a sexual fantasy involving giants, most commonly expressed as giantesses (female giants), as well as giant objects.[1][2] It is typically believed to be a male fantasy, with the male playing the smaller part; however, persons with any background can have it.[3] When the smaller part is male, they may be depicted as entering, being dominated by, or being eaten by the larger woman.[2][4] Generally, depictions range from sexually explicit actions to non-sexual interactions while still providing sexual stimulation for those with the fantasy.[2]
Although macrophilia literally translates to simply a "lover of large",[1] in the context of a sexual fantasy, it is used to denote attraction to beings larger than themselves. Generally, the interest differs between macrophiles, and depends on gender and sexual orientation. Macrophiles often enjoy feeling small and being abused, degraded, dominated, or eaten,[8] and they often view the much taller being as powerful and dominating.[citation needed]
One way macrophiles enjoy their fetish physically is by scheduling private sessions with extraordinarily tall women to engage in non-sexual interactions; trampling, lifting and carrying, foot worshiping, roleplaying and domination.[8]
The first e-mail was from a woman who is 6 foot 3 inches. (Although she said that when she tells guys how tall she is, she "rounds down" to 6 foot 2 inches, the exact opposite of what guys do.) She has researched scientific studies about height differences and preferences among heterosexual men and women, and she has conducted some research on her own. Here are some of her findings.
Without getting too scientific (and I admit I had a bit of difficulty understanding all the scientific research she sent me), she explained that in most societies, on an average, men tend to be 8 percent taller than women.
There is a term called the sexual dimorphism ratio (SDR) which is defined as SDR = male height/female height. A number greater than 1.0 indicates the male is taller than the female. Since men tend to be 8 percent taller than women, the norm SDR would therefore be 1.08.
Overall, men preferred an SDR of 1.09 (just about the norm), while women overall preferred an SDR of 1.14, far above the norm. That means that women overall prefer men 14 percent taller than themselves. So, on average, that means that a woman who is 5 foot 4 inches would prefer men just under 6 foot 1 inch.
There were some very tall women who preferred men their own height or even shorter, while some shorter women's preferred SDR rose to 1.19, meaning they wanted to meet men 19 percent taller than themselves. So such a woman who is, say 5 foot 1 inch, would strongly prefer dating a man over 6 feet. (And at my dating service I interviewed many such women.)
Fortunately that is not true of all 5-foot 1-inch women. When a woman of that height would join LunchDates and say that she would be happy to meet a guy just a few inches taller, she would have a large pool of great men available to her.
Consequently many of those women wound up living "happily ever after" having met a great guy. As for those 5-foot 1-inch women who insisted on only being matched with men over 6 feet, I know that most of them had very unsatisfactory memberships.
Another female reader who is 5 foot 7 inches said that she used to always prefer men her own height or taller. But now she is crazy about her boyfriend who is only 5 foot 4 inches. She reported that her experiences with tall men over the years were mostly negative, saying that if they were attractive, they tended to be "arrogant," and if they were nice, they tended to be "spineless," lacking drive.
She then mentioned that a female friend of hers fits the unfortunate image of many of the women I described in previous articles. This woman has been single "forever" and will only meet men well over 6 feet.
At my dating service I found that the only women who were willing to meet men their own height or shorter were tall women, usually 5 foot 8 inches or taller. Since many of these women were the tallest in their class even going back to elementary school, they tended to be very flexible in terms of a man's height.
The fact is that girls grow faster than boys, most having a growth spurt around sixth grade, and they tend to stay taller right through middle school. Yet by the time students finish high school, the boys are usually taller. This is because as boy and girls go through puberty, the growth hormones called androgens are released in girls before they are released in boys. (Another fact I researched.)
So for those girls who are already tall that period of adolescence (when nobody wants to appear different and dating patterns are beginning to develop) can be especially traumatic. As a result, many tall girls never develop that compulsion to only date much taller men.
Once again the moral of this column is that if you are single and want to meet some really nice, down-to-earth, non-arrogant people, the type of men and women who make great husbands and wives and fathers and mothers, check out some of the short men and tall women you may have been excluding in your previous dating searches.
Tall stature is usually defined as a height beyond 97th percentile or more than 2 SD above the mean height for age and sex in a defined population. Familiar tall stature, also known as constitutional tall stature, is the most common cause of tall stature. Overnutrition, obesity, also usually causes overgrowth. Tall stature by itself is not a pathological condition, however, there are a number of disorders associated with tall stature. Some genetic disorders and syndromes may be associated with mental retardation and various complications. Therefore, recognition of tall stature and revealing the underlying pathogenic causes and making the diagnosis are important not to miss the serious conditions and to provide adequate medical care and genetic counseling. Pathological causes for tall statute include endocrine disorders, such as excessive growth hormone secretion, hyperthyroidism, precocious puberty and lipodystrophy, chromosome disorders, such as Trisomy X (47, XXX female), Klinefelter Syndrome (47, XXY), XYY syndrome (47, XYY male) and fragile X syndrome, and syndromes and metabolic disorders, such as Marfan Syndrome, Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome, Simpson-Golabi-Behmel Syndrome, Sotos Syndrome and homocystinuria. Children may require growth-reductive treatment if the predicted adult height would be excessive and unacceptable. Some hormonal, high doses of sex steroids, or surgical, bilateral percutaneous epiphysiodesis of the distal femur and proximal tibia and fibula, treatment is currently available to reduce adult height.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, America was home to the tallest people in the world, but today that honor goes to the Netherlands. Today, Dutch men and women average 6 feet and 5 feet 6.5 inches, respectively. U.S. men average 5 feet 9 inches and women average nearly 5 feet 4 inches tall.
The taller you are, the greater your risk of cancer, according to a study in the journal Lancet Oncology. After examining medical records of more than one million British women whose height ranged from less than 5 feet 1 inch to 5 feet 8 inches and taller, researchers found that the tallest women had a 37 percent greater risk of developing cancer.
Very short or tall people may have conditions called dwarfism or gigantism, respectively. About one in 15,000 people have dwarfism, defined as an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches or less. Genetic mutations that cause bones to grow short are the main causes, according to Michael J. Goldberg, MD, chief of the Skeletal Dysplasia Clinic at Seattle Children's Hospital.
At the other end of the spectrum is a more rare condition called gigantism, in which people grow very tall, usually due to an excess of growth hormones during childhood often caused by a benign tumor on the pituitary gland.
The height a person reaches as an adult depends on the genes they inherit from their parents as well as general health and nutrition during their years of growth. The child of short parents is more likely to be short themselves than the child of tall parents. There is a lot of variation; brothers or sisters with the same parents will not all end up the same height and parents can, by chance, have a child who is unexpectedly tall or short in relation to the rest of the family.
The fastest period of growth is before birth, with the baby growing from almost zero to a length of about 50cm in nine months. This speed falls after birth with an average growth of 5.5cm per year at eight years old. During puberty, growth speeds up again. This is called the pubertal growth spurt. Before puberty, boys and girls grow at similar speeds, but during puberty boys grow more than girls. The average height of an adult man is 14cm taller than the average height of an adult woman.
There are also variations in the height of each individual population, and most people who are very short or very tall are completely healthy, but just at the top or bottom end of the normal range for that particular population. A medical problem that affects growth is more likely if a child is growing slower or faster than expected.
Almost everyone who is very tall is normal and has no medical problems. Marfan syndrome and Klinefelter's syndrome can cause very tall stature, and extremely rare tumours of the pituitary gland producing too much growth hormone can result in very rapid growth (gigantism).
Children - If tests show that a child is deficient in growth hormone, they can be treated with artificial growth hormone, which will help them to catch up and reach a normal height. Treatment using a normal dosage cannot make them grow to a taller adult height than they would have had if they had not had a growth hormone deficiency. Studies have shown that growth hormone can help to increase the final adult height of children with Turner syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, kidney failure and for some children who were of very low birth weight for their gestational age. 2b1af7f3a8
